In POP XXI, each kernel is coated with dextrose. This dextrose is a naturally occurring sweetener that is naturally produced by the same corn. When placed in the microwave, the dextrose elevates the temperature of the kernel in order to "pop" it, replacing oils and fats generally used for this purpose. At the same time the natural dextrose adds a natural sweet taste to the popped corn.
